Facilitating Change

I just finished teaching my all-time favorite course, Extraordinary Facilitation Skills. What I love about this course is I get to witness people make substantial improvements in their communication and facilitation skills. Why is this always the case? It’s simple. They are doing all the heavy lifting. They are exposed to new tools and techniques and gently encouraged to use them in a safe and supportive environment. They are given an opportunity to select the skills they want to try and given multiple opportunities to take center stage. Most importantly they are asked to critically evaluate their own progress and given balanced feedback along the way. What I have learned in my seventeen years as a workshop facilitator, leader and coach is that people get energized when they are at the center of the action.
